Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has announced that she will donate her year’s salary to help those battling at the front lines of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In an announcement, the mayor said the will give her one-year salary—amounting to PHP2.1 million—in a trust fund to help pay for the treatment of health workers at Southern Philippines Medical Center who have tested positive for the disease.

Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte—Sara’s father—donated his month’s salary to the government’s funds for the COVID-19 response.

“Assistant Secretaries of the Offices of the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel and Presidential Spokesperson have likewise committed to donate at least 10% of their income directly to the Office of Civil Defense this month, and will continue providing financial and relief assistance from their salaries to groups who are at the frontline of this health crisis in the succeeding months,” said Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo in an announcement.

Other government who donated their salaries to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic include House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, Manila city mayor Isko Moreno,  as well as Senator Sonny Angara, among many others.
