Atom Araullo says ABS-CBN franchise renewal a “press freedom issue”

Former ABS-CBN reporter Atom Araullo took to social media to hit Anak Kalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor amid the franchise renewal hearing of the network.

In his Twitter post, Araullo said the remarks of Defensor calling on ABS-CBN to post non-political issues is a direct hit on press freedom.

Recently, Defensor indicated that some lawmakers are not happy with ABS-CBN’s “one-sided” reports and that it is one of the problems as to why it is having a hard time getting their franchise renewed.

“Katulad nung reklamo nung isang kasama ko, naka-air na naman sila, tinira si ganito, tumira si ganyan, o one-sided iyong paglabas ng issue,” he said.

Araullo said, “If this isn’t a clear indication that ABS-CBN’s franchise woes is a press freedom issue, I don’t know what is.”
